The Lancaster Chapter of the AGO fosters the growth of young organists by

offering two scholarships...

 

Beginning Organist Scholarship

 

Purpose: To financially supplement the serious study of the organ by a qualified applicant, either at an institution of higher education or with a private instructor acceptable to the Scholarship Committee.

Amount:
The amount of the award will not exceed $400 per recipient.

Qualifications:
The applicant must: 1. be from our Lancaster AGO Chapter location. 2. be a member of the Lancaster Chapter, AGO (regular, student, or chapter friend) immediately upon the award of the scholarship. 3. have not previously studied organ or have engaged in less than 2 years of study. 4. demonstrate the potential for excellence by means of an audition. At the audition the applicant must demonstrate an intermediate level of proficiency on the piano by playing: a) a 2-octave scale, using both hands simultaneously, selected by the interviewer at the audition. b) a 2-part Invention by J. S. Bach, or a movement from a Sonatina by Clementi, or an equivalent piece of piano repertoire. c) a hymn in 4-part harmony. 5. in addition, if an applicant has studied organ, they will play a piece to demonstrate their progress.

Timing of Award:
The scholarship is awarded to the recipient for the duration of one year, with the recipient(s) chosen prior to and announced at the Summer Arts Festival Organ Recital. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to withhold the award in any given year. 


Procedure: The applicant must: 1. submit a completed application form to the Scholarship Committee by the deadline set. 2. interview with and audition for the committee.

LUNT-McConnell Scholarship

 

Purpose: To financially supplement the continuation of serious study of the organ by a qualified applicant, either at an institution of higher education or with a private instructor acceptable to the Scholarship Committee. 

 

Amount: The amount of the award shall not exceed $500 per recipient.

Qualifications:
The applicant must: 1. be from our Lancaster AGO Chapter location. 2. be or become a member of the Lancaster Chapter, AGO (regular, student, or chapter friend) immediately upon award of the scholarship. 3. have been engaged in organ study for at least 2 years. 4. demonstrate the potential for excellence by means of an audition. At the audition the applicant must demonstrate an immediate level of proficiency on the organ by playing: a) a selection of organ repertoire to demonstrate technical and musical facility. b) a 4-part hymn with pedals. 5. if selected, the recipient will be expected to play at one chapter event within a year of receiving the award.

The scholarship is awarded to the recipient for the duration of one year, with the recipient(s) chosen prior to and announced at the Summer Arts Festival Organ Recital. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to withhold the award in any given year.
